The Board of Governors of Northwoodcare Group Incorporated is pleased to announce the appointment of Charbel Daniel as the new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) commencing July 29, 2024, as successor to retiring Northwood CEO, Janet Simm.

Charbel Daniel is a dynamic leader with a wealth of experience in healthcare strategy and pioneering operations. With a background in Paramedicine, Charbel is the Executive Director, Provincial Operations at Emergency Medical Care Inc. With over 16 years of experience with Medavie, Charbel has held positions of increasing breadth and responsibility including Senior Manager, System Support at Emergency Medical Care Inc. and Chief Operating Officer at MedLife USA. While respected as an innovative and visionary leader, Charbel values tradition, people, and values-based culture as the heart of collaborative growth and excellence.

Steeped in health system expertise and intricate stakeholder relations, Charbel has relevant board experience as a board member with the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada and the Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Northwood team as CEO," says Charbel Daniel. "I'm deeply inspired by Northwood's compassionate approach to client care and our unwavering commitment to putting people first. Together, I hope to help Northwood continue to achieve our mission and vision, while fostering innovation and maintaining our people-first philosophy. My experience leading large, complex health care organizations has afforded me valuable insights from incredible leaders and team members. I'm excited to bring this knowledge to Northwood and work together to uphold our inclusive and caring culture."

Reporting to the Board of Governors, Charbel will be responsible for providing oversight for the efficient and effective operation of Northwood. He will lead a senior team of dedicated and committed leaders to ensure the day-to-day operations are in alignment with Northwood's mission, vision and long-term strategic priorities.

"Finding a new CEO who can carry on Janet's legacy of strong leadership and commitment to innovation was a daunting challenge," commented Gavin Stuttard, Chair of the Board of Governors. "Our process started in January, soon after Janet announced her planned retirement, beginning with selection of advisors and extensive consultation with key internal and external stakeholders. This consultation informed a search process that yielded an impressive number of applications from highly qualified candidates. Through the candidate selection and interview process, Charbel stood out for his strong record of creative problem solving, collaborative approach to leadership, poise and ability to work with the various competing interests in the health care sector. We believe Charbel has the right mix of skills to carry forward Northwood's leadership in continuing care, together with the strong senior leadership team already in place. I want to thank my colleagues on our CEO search committee for their time and thoughtful insights throughout the process."

Planning for the transition from retiring CEO, Janet Simm, is underway, and Janet has agreed to be available to assist with the transition after her last day in office of June 28, 2024.

Charbel holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Dalhousie University and a Masters in Business and Administration degree from the Quantic School of Business and Technology.
