Sheridan Welcomes Mary Vaughan as New Provost and Vice President, Academic

Sheridan proudly announces the appointment of Mary Vaughan, a renowned and dynamic leader in higher education, as its new Provost and Vice President Academic.

Headshot of new Sheridan Provost and Vice-President Academic Mary VaughanWith over two decades of experience in academic leadership and a robust background in global education, Vaughan embodies the college's dedication to academic excellence, quality student experiences, diversity, and innovation. Her career spans 24 years, marked by transformative leadership roles and significant achievements.

As Senior Vice-President, Academic and Student Success at Lambton College, she oversaw a student body of over 13,000, infusing the academic environment with innovative programming and cutting-edge initiatives. Her tenure saw the college recognized globally for its leadership in technology, health, business, and sustainability. She was instrumental in developing ground-breaking projects, such as campus expansions, Sustainability at Lambton, establishment of Lambton’s Centres of Graduate Studies, Academic Excellence & Teaching Innovation, and Experiential Learning, along with the development of a new five-year Academic Plan. During her tenure she also championed the stand-alone Bachelor of Science in Nursing and established the School of Nursing.

Previously, Vaughan served as Dean of the Faculty of Business at Seneca, steering the institution to new heights in program quality, sustainability, and experiential learning. She also played a pivotal role at the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, where she worked to advance workforce development and academic excellence in the Gulf region.

Aligned with Sheridan's core values, Vaughan’s leadership orientation is grounded in a deep and genuine commitment to inclusivity and student success. Her efforts have led to significant increases in student retention and diversity, and the implementation of effective student advising models.

The new Provost is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Higher Education at Walden University. She holds a Master of Business Administration (Information Technology Management) from the University of Leicester and a Bachelor of Education (Post-Secondary) from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Vaughan’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

"I am excited to embark on this new journey with Sheridan. I fervently believe in the innovation, student-centred education, and career readiness that characterizes Ontario colleges. Higher education in Ontario is at a turning point, and I can think of no better institution to trailblaze a path forward than Sheridan. I am looking forward to working alongside the talented and passionate team at Sheridan to continue enhancing our academic programs and student experiences," said Vaughan upon her appointment.

Sheridan would like to extend its gratitude to everyone involved in the search — including those who provided input via the surveys and feedback sessions — for the time they invested in this critical hire.

Vaughan will begin her role as Provost starting on April 1, 2024.
