Nov. 28, 2022. St. John’s – The Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador board of directors is pleased to announce that Robert Nolan will be the next MNL CEO.
Nolan has over ten years of experience in senior roles at Memorial University, most recently as Senior Planning Analyst. His passion for local government has led to a range of experiences within the sector, from managing election campaigns to serving on the board of Happy City St. John’s and cofounding Citizens’ Assembly for Stronger Elections, a municipal advocacy group.
During his Master of Arts studies in Political Science, Nolan completed a thesis on local governance in Newfoundland and Labrador, investigating the decision-making process of institutional change at the municipal level. Nolan holds an MBA and Master of Arts from Memorial University, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Policy and Governance from University of Victoria.
In addition to municipal affairs, Nolan is passionate about climate action and contributed to the Generation Sustainable Development Goals Summit, led by the Waterloo Global Science Initiative in 2018.
“We are pleased to welcome Robert to the MNL team. We have a tremendous amount of important work happening in and with our sector right now to advance priorities around sustainable infrastructure, municipal fiscal stability, regional approaches, climate resilience, community health and safety, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. Robert’s expertise and experience will move these priorities forward to support our members and ensure that they have the right programs and services for their needs,” – Amy Coady, MNL President.
“Over the past decade, I have followed MNL closely – as a citizen, a volunteer and a researcher – and I have always admired and wanted to be a part of its work strengthening local governance in Newfoundland and Labrador. I have immense respect for the staff and Board members who have built an incredible foundation for the organization, and I am so excited to be part of what comes next,” – Rob Nolan, incoming MNL CEO.
Nolan will begin his tenure as MNL CEO on Dec. 12, replacing outgoing CEO Craig Pollett.
