Joshua Smee

KBRS is pleased to have assisted Food First NL in the appointment of Joshua Smee as the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer, effective January 6, 2020.

Smee, a passionate community leader, and public engagement and project management professional, brings a wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership skills to the role of CEO. Throughout his career, Smee has worked closely with Food First NL on many files in his capacity as an employee of the Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador and as Chair of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market Cooperative.

In his most recent role as a member of the senior leadership team at Choices for Youth (CFY), Smee lead a portfolio focused on policy advocacy, community wellness, and directing the scaleup of CFY’s work from the local to the provincial level. During his tenure at CFY, he gained extensive, relevant experience in program development and management, community engagement and media relations, policy development, government relations, and board governance.

As the CEO of Food First NL, Smee will use this experience as well as his growth-minded vision to provide passionate, executive leadership and management for the organization’s strategic plan. As a passionate and energetic leader, he will play a vital role in moving the organization’s mission forward by building and expanding partnerships, developing capacity among staff, and catalyzing action at the local, provincial, and national levels.

Food First NL is a provincial, non-profit organization that works with communities in Newfoundland & Labrador to ensure everyone has access to affordable, healthy, and culturally appropriate food.
