Reporting to the President of the Group, the General Counsel & Senior Risk Officer leads the oversight of risk, safety, legal, insurance, and claims management portfolios. This position leads the team which handles all liability claims and ultimately ensures the safe transportation of highly regulated goods.
As the General Counsel & Senior Risk Officer, you will provide strategic legal advice on M&A, corporate governance and contracts, contributing to the company's growth and operational excellence while staying abreast of legislative changes impacting operations. You will play a key role in fostering a safety culture by developing and implementing risk management strategies to mitigate legal and operational risks, particularly regarding the transportation of dangerous goods. You will collaborate across operations to manage risks uniformly and oversee relationships with insurance brokers to ensure adequate coverage. You will lead corporate safety strategy, including the development of policy, training programs and incident reporting systems, while setting clear safety guidelines for frontline workers. As Seaboard is largely self-insured, you will also oversee the claims process, with the objective of minimizing financial exposure while ensuring effective claim resolutions.

As the ideal candidate you have:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree and membership in good standing with a provincial Law Society.
- Progressive legal experience within a private business or law firm with a background in corporate law, commercial transactions, and regulatory compliance.
- A proven track record managing legal and regulatory issues in a complex and highly regulated environment. Experience in risk management, insurance, and claims handling considered a strong asset.
