Reporting to the Principal & Vice President, Academic, British Columbia for Yorkville University the Chair, Liberal Arts will be responsible for the overall leadership, management and strategic direction of the Associate of Arts (AoA) program and Liberal Arts courses within BC. The Chair will lead and promote Yorkville University’s academic vision of transforming lives by championing excellence and innovation in education.
The Chair will maintain a robust academic community that encourages professional development, scholarly activity, and participation in university initiatives. Working in collaboration with the Assistant Dean, Liberal Arts (ON), the Chair will have specific overarching responsibility for the academic management of the AoA, Liberal Arts courses within BC, students, and supervision of both full-time and part-time faculty members.
The Chair is involved in university-wide governance and the provincial senate, chairs committees, leads program planning and development to ensure the continuing quality of the AoA, as well as strengthening the integrity and reputation of Liberal Arts within the industry. The Chair is responsible for academic planning and governance, curriculum development and quality assurance. The Chair will also work with university leadership and faculty members to explore, propose, and implement new programming initiatives.
The Chair will also oversee external relationships, representing Liberal Arts with a variety of external stakeholders. This includes nurturing relationships within the BCCAT system, ensuring the growth and success of block transfer and other agreements, as well as developing strategic partnerships with community organizations and high schools as a potential source of new students, and managing relationships with regulators and licensing bodies.
The Chair strives to support students’ academic achievement and successful outcomes. The Chair will work with the Principal & VPA BC as well as other service and support units of the university to ensure an excellent student experience and quality assurance of faculty programs.

- Earned doctorate from a recognized/accredited institution in a related field.
- Significant experience teaching on-campus and/or online at the postsecondary level.
- Administrative experience in a post-secondary education environment with increasing responsibilities.
- Experience with online delivery of courses and programs.
- Exceptional diplomatic skills with strong organizational and consensus-building skills, and the ability to inspire and lead faculty with diverse interests.
- Strong capacity for external relations, including alumni, Program Advisory Council members and professional communities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with teams across all functions.
- Demonstrated commitment to and success with skills-based pedagogical and curricular innovation.
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong focus on students with emphasis on retention, academic success, and wellbeing.
- A strong track record of accomplishment in the scholarly and research community.
