Reporting to the Principal & Vice President, Academic, New Brunswick for Yorkville University, the Dean, Faculty of Education will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction for the Faculty of Education. The Dean will lead and promote Yorkville University’s academic vision of transforming lives by championing excellence and innovation in education and establish Yorkville University as a differentiated leader in online learning (largely for the domestic student market).

The Dean is responsible for academic planning and governance, championing student success, curriculum development and quality assurance, faculty hiring and review as well as the allocation of teaching duties to faculty members. They will foster a cohesive and collaborative team environment, supporting faculty and staff in their professional growth and contributions. They will also contribute to management of the New Brunswick campus budget. The Dean is also responsible for a working environment in which all faculty and staff can grow and thrive in support of the university’s mission and students’ academic success and well-being.

The Faculty of Education offers graduate programming at the master’s and certificate levels. All programs are delivered online to both domestic and international students. Working with a leadership team of associate deans and program chairs, the Dean will have specific overarching responsibility for the academic management of faculty of education programs, students, and both full-time and part-time faculty members. The Dean will work with the Principal & VPA NB as well as other service and support units of the university to ensure an excellent student experience and quality assurance of faculty programs. Additionally, they will lead external engagement efforts, building relationships with alumni, professional associations, and prospective students, while raising the profile and national reputation of the Faculty of Education. The Dean will also work with university leadership and faculty members to explore, propose, and implement new programming initiatives. Further, the Dean will participate in academic governance, strategic planning, and university management with the Principal & VPA NB and the national leadership team.

The successful candidate would need to be comfortable leading and managing 100% asynchronous programs and come with prior experience as an Associate and Assistant Dean or Department Head.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Earned doctorate from a recognized/accredited institution in a related field. 
  • A record of peer-reviewed scholarly activity. 
  • At least 7 years’ experience teaching at the postsecondary level. 
  • At least 3 years’ administrative experience, with increasing responsibilities, in a post-secondary education environment (e.g. program development, program accreditation, program review, quality assurance practices, student and faculty policies, faculty hiring). 
  • Experience in the public K-12 education system and/or experience in professional or corporate education and training
  • Experience supervising graduate students at MEd and doctoral levels
  • Experience with online delivery of courses and programs.
  • Exceptional diplomatic skills with strong organizational and consensus-building skills, and the ability to inspire and lead faculty with diverse interests. 
  • Strong capacity for external relations, including alumni, Program Advisory Council members and professional communities. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with teams across all functions. 
  • A record of success in recruiting and retaining talented and diverse faculty. 
  • High personal integrity.
