C-CORE is seeking an innovative and results-driven leader to serve as Vice-President, Business Development to build long-term partnerships and foster growth to support this unique and transformative organization.  

The Organization

C-CORE is the leading Canadian innovator in developing client-focused technology solutions to address complex challenges in our oceans, on land, and in space. Since 1975 C-CORE has provided research-based advisory services and technology solutions to local, national and international government and industry clients in the defence, security, space, resource and transportation sectors. We also provide niche services to clients requiring solutions that are based on remote sensing technologies. Over the years, C-CORE has developed world-class expertise, fostered an extensive network of client, partners and collaborators and established itself as a leader in climate change monitoring and adaptation, especially n Arctic environments.

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, this role is integral to advancing C-CORE’s mission to provide cutting-edge research and technology solutions. As part of the Executive Team, the Vice-President, Business Development will lead the organization’s efforts to develop large-scale programs and projects, foster strategic partnerships, and drive growth in key sectors such as defense, space, environment, and climate change. The VP, Business Development will build strategic initiatives, forge impactful partnerships, and drive C-CORE’s growth in targeted markets. Working with C-CORE's engineering and scientific staff, they will lead the development of multi-million-dollar programs using satellite remote sensing technologies and other innovative solutions, advancing research & development, and operational applications for clients and stakeholders.

Key areas of oversight and responsibility are:

Strategic Leadership and Business Growth – Develops and implements funding strategies to pursue large-scale ortunities in defense, space, environment, and climate change sectors. Drives growth by aligning business development initiatives with organizational objectives, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.

Partnership and Ecosystem Development – Builds and nurtures relationships with industry leaders, small and medium enterprises, Indigenous communities, academic institutions, and consortium partners. Positions C-CORE as a leader in delivering transformative solutions by fostering collaboration and developing ecosystems.

Program and Proposal Leadership – Leads the development of strategic proposals, marketing initiatives, and project pursuits, ensuring high-quality, competitive submissions. Provides guidance on project management decisions to enhance the success of funded initiatives.

Technology and Innovation Leadership – Fosters the integration of advanced technologies, including satellite remote sensing and artificial intelligence, into C-CORE’s new projects and programs. Communicates complex technlogies to diverse audiences, identifying synergies across technological areas, and translating them into actionable opportunities.

You are skilled in understanding and communicating complex technologies, developing partnerships, and leading high-impact initiatives in industries such as defense, aerospace, and environmental solutions. You are an engaging leader capable of building trust with constituents and are invested in C-CORE’s success. You have demonstrated success in building a forward-looking business development plan that produces desired growth and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications and Experience

While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.
  • A degree in science, technlogy, engineering, or math, or equivalent experience and qualifications. A business qualification such as an MBA is considered an asset.
  • At least 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience.
  • Proven expertise in business development, with experience developing $1M+ programs and securing funding for high-tech projects.
  • Understanding of related sectors such as satellite remote sensing technologies, artificial intelligence applications, and emerging trends in defense, space, and environmental solutions is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Canadian government R&D programs, Industrial Technological Benefits policy, and organizations such as the Canadian Space Agency and European Space Agency.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences and foster collaborative partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic proposal development, financial assessment, and stakeholder management.
  • A track record of building ecosystems and consortiums to advance innovative rograms.

Ideally we would prefer that our new Vice-President is located in St. John’s on a full time basis, however, we understand the importance of securing the best talent and are open to flexible arrangements. This can include a combination of working remotely and spending time in Newfoundland and Labrador, especially during the initial integration period and at strategic times throughout the year.
