Head of Empire Media+

The Head of Empire Media+ is a new role created to spearhead Empire’s commerce media strategy, delivering on a new and separate business as part of our 3-year Project Altitude. The Head will build an independent arm which will work in an agile environment. This business will be run out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, not far from our small-town roots in Stellarton.

Does this sound like you?

You are a seasoned and energetic executive who brings extensive experience building or scaling a service business, including planning, developing operational structures, and reporting on progress to a board. You are an inspiring evangelist for something new and highly entrepreneurial. You are known for seeing the possibilities and selling them internally and externally, all while building an operation from the ground up.

You are a proven leader known for recognizing and nurturing talent (be it sales/media or technical/data), while guiding and inspiring a team toward a common vision. You bring the ability to read the room, whether with the board, functional leadership, customers or partners. You can counsel on media investment strategies, finding win-win solutions for all involved. Experience in RMN and/or in an agile environment considered an asset.

Overall, you have a drive to build a business and can see the immense potential of commerce media. You want to do it with us, where you have full support from Empire’s board, CEO and ELT, along with access to data on the shopping habits of millions of Canadians coast to coast.

Where you will be focusing:  

  • From the beginning, set the overall vision and strategy to propel growth of Empire Media+
  • Oversee day-to-day operational functions, manage P&L, and serve as the accountable leader
  • Develop and implement strategies to deliver on financial goals – revenue generation and margin growth aspirations – and set priorities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within Empire (e.g., merchandising, tech, marketing) to maximize resources
  • Develop talent and set a culture which supports performance, accountability and empowerment
  • Communicate the Empire Media+ value proposition to internal stakeholders and vendors
  • Define the Go-to-Market strategy for all products and services, implementation, and execution.
