Founded in 1920, MacQuarries Pharmasave is a family-owned and operated group of 16 retail pharmacies, one home healthcare store, and a collection of real estate properties located across mainland Nova Scotia. MacQuarries is dedicated to providing exceptional service and care to their communities.

 

The role:
Reporting to the President, the Chief Operating Officer will play a pivotal role in providing strategic and operational leadership to a team committed to making a positive impact in their communities. This role is crucial for driving excellence in MacQuarrie’s operations and ensuring a firm foundation for future growth.

Working collaboratively with the senior leadership team, the COO will identify key priorities and develop short and long-term strategies and metrics for achieving vision, mission and financial objectives. With a natural curiosity, the COO will fuel the pursuit of continuous improvement, enabling the exploration of new opportunities, asking the right questions, and anticipating challenges before they arise, all while maintaining a strong focus on high-quality execution. The COO will ensure we have the right structure, people, resources and functional capabilities to achieve strategic plans at the corporate and branch levels and foster strong community engagement ensuring MacQuarries Pharmasave remains connected and committed to the people it serves.

 

As the ideal candidate you:

  • Have significant experience in senior leadership roles and demonstrated success in building high performance organizations. Experience in and knowledge of multi-unit retail, preferably in the pharmacy sector would be considered an asset.
  • Have a successful track record of maximizing efficiency and profitability through well-developed business plans, policies and systems.
  • Can naturally build the confidence and trust of employees with integrity, transparency, sound decision-making and a hands-on approach.
  • Have superior communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to delegate effectively when needed.
  • Are naturally curious and hands-on with a keen eye for evaluating internal and external opportunities.

Familiarity with family-owned businesses and/or cooperative franchise models would be considered an asset.
