Radiation Oncologist

Radiation Oncologist – Corner Brook, NL

Currently, we are inviting applications for two Radiation Oncologists to join our clinical team in a new Cancer Centre with radiation therapy services in Corner Brook, NL. All interested applicants are encouraged to apply.

The Organization
The Cancer Care Program of NL Health Services (NLHS) has a provincial mandate to deliver cancer care to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. It operates the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre (DHBMCC) in St. John's, and regional cancer centers in Corner Brook, Gander and Grand Falls. The Cancer Care Western in Corner Brook is part of the brand new Western Memorial Regional Hospital, slated to open to the public in spring 2024. This new acute care hospital is a seven-story, 600,000 square foot facility with 164 beds, which will be connected to a 145-bed long-term care home that was recently constructed. Prior to this new facility’s completion, patients on the West coast of the province would have to travel to St. John’s for radiation therapy.

The Role

Our Radiation Oncologists participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds, site-based peer review, departmental meetings, clinical trials, and work closely with colleagues within the provincial cancer care program. As a full-time clinical equivalent, they will be responsible for treating at least two main disease sites and one minor disease site, as well as palliative management of other sites. Services in Corner Brook will be for outpatient care and will not include an on-call or inpatient service. The Western Memorial Regional Hospital is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland Labrador and this position also offers an opportunity for teaching and scholarly activities including clinical trial participation.

Qualifications and Experience

While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.
• A Medical Degree with an FRCPC in Radiation Oncology or equivalent.
• Eligible for licensure in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Experience providing outstanding care in areas of clinical need within the department such as: breast, prostate, lung, skin and colorectal cancers. Expertise in other sites, such as CNS and hematologic cancer is also valued.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a cancer care program is preferred.

Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in NL, with this role being hired at a Step 3. A signing bonus of up to $175,000 is available upon acceptance, as well as an additional Come Home Incentive for Newfoundlanders that have lived outside the province for at least 6 months ($100,000).
