The Durham Family Court Clinic (DFCC) is a multi-faceted agency that offers core services and community linkages to provide high-quality intervention and prevention programs for youth and families in the Durham Region. Created in 1980 with a mission to empower and engage young people, families, and communities through collaboration, innovation, and excellence, DFCC provides a supportive environment for youth experiencing difficulty coping in the regular school system by partnering with the Durham District School Board (including Grove School), Durham Catholic District School Board, Durham Children's Aid Society, and Youth Justice Probation in the Collaborative Day Treatment Program. They are also known for their work with high-risk youth and families and their school-based violence prevention program.


In this period of organizational transformation and adaptation, DFCC is seeking a new Executive Director (ED) to oversee all aspects of operations, strategy, and growth crucial to fulfilling their mission and supporting the belief that all people have the right to live in a safe, healthy, caring society, free from violence, discrimination, abuse, poverty and fear. The ED will play a key role in evolving DFCC’s strategies and refining its processes to its impact in meeting the needs of the stakeholders and the community they serve.
As the lead administrator reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will implement planned policies and procedures and ensure that programs and services meet the highest standards and that DFCC remains financially sustainable and aligned with the community's needs.


Key Responsibilities

 

Governance and Board Relations

  • Acts as the primary liaison to the Board, facilitating board development, engagement, and governance while preparing and presenting essential materials and updates.
  • Undertakes projects or assignments as may be directed by the Board of Directors from time to time.

Financial Management

  • Manages DFCC’s finances, including budget development, fund applications and management, grant negotiations, fundraising, and financial reporting to ensure sustainability, adequate reporting practices, and compliance.
  • Supports organizational growth through leading resource development efforts, including fundraising, donor engagement, and grant management.

Program and Operations Management

  • Leads the development and execution of strategic and operational plans in alignment with DFCC's mission, goals, and Board directives to ensure compliance with legal and funding requirements.
  • Oversees and guides the Program Director with program evaluation, design, development, and enhancement by integrating quality assurance, data, trends, and reporting to align with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Ensures programs are aligned with the strategic plan and effectively meet the community's needs.
  • Identifies opportunities for organizational growth and sustainability.
  • Oversees risk management, operations, and administration.

Leadership

  • Provides visionary leadership and sets the strategic direction for DFCC.
  • Guides and enables staff through recruitment, training, performance enablement, and fostering an inclusive work culture.
  • Advances, implements, and monitors the anti-oppression, anti-racism, and equity, diversity and inclusion (AO/AR/EDI) agenda.
  • Drives DFCC's commitment to EDI/AO/AR, incorporating them across strategic priorities, work, and operations. Actively champions the recommendations and work of the EDI/AO/AR Committee (Together in Action) and facilitates related organizational change.
  • Promotes and empowers staff through professional development and capacity growth to work with youth and families from equity-deserving communities using EDI/AO/AR practices and approaches. Leads by example by embracing, valuing, learning and implementing these practices and strategies.

Community Engagement

  • Champions the mission of DFCC, enhances its visibility and fosters community relations. Promotes policies and programs that support children and youth, particularly those in conflict with the justice system.
  • Advocates for DFCC's mission and priorities through networking and media relations.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders to advance the organization's goals.
  • Adapts and responds to the changing needs of the organization.

Experience, Training and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in non-profit management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field that aligns with the DFCC's mission;
  • Five (5) years of relevant leadership experience. This may include managing teams, overseeing budgets, fundraising, program management, and working closely with a board of directors;
  • Experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors;
  • Experience working in the social services, child and youth mental health, youth justice, and child and youth service systems would be an asset;
  • Experience in grant writing and resource development is an asset;
  • Experience implementing and championing the application of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, as well as anti-oppression, anti-discrimination, and anti-racism practices across organizational objectives and functions is an asset;
  • Lived experience with youth and family voices for advancing social justice is also an asset; and
  • Ability to adapt and respond to the changing needs of the organization.
