Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette is pleased to have assisted Saint Mary’s University with the appointment of Dr. Margaret MacDonald as Dean of Arts.
Dr. MacDonald, a religious studies professor at St. Francis Xavier University, began her five year term with Saint Mary’s on July 1, 2014.
“As a well-respected academic and administrator, Dr. MacDonald was chosen after an extensive national and international search to lead our diverse Faculty of Arts and to advance its priorities,” said Dr. David Gauthier, Vice-President Academic and Research at Saint Mary’s.
Dr. MacDonald is a Saint Mary’s alumna who received her Doctor of Philosophy with a Commonwealth Scholarship at Oxford University. She has also taught at the University of Ottawa and has been active in the leadership of scholarly societies both nationally and internationally. Dr. MacDonald has extensive experience at many levels of university governance and is a strong advocate for the growth of service learning at university. She embraces interdisciplinary collaboration in both her teaching and research. She has received several research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and her fifth book will be published this fall.
“I am looking forward to returning to the Saint Mary’s campus and to building upon the University's tradition of academic excellence," said Dr. MacDonald. "There are many exciting opportunities ahead and I am eager to start working with our talented students, faculty, staff and administrators.”
