Nova Scotia

Chair, Trustee Board

The Nova Scotia Teachers’ Pension Plan (TPP) is one of the largest public-sector pension plans in the Province, representing almost 33,000 members including 13,000 active teachers, and has assets of approximately $5 billion. Teachers’ Pension Plan Trustee Inc. (TPPTI) is the trustee of the TPP. TPPTI ensures that the Plan is operated with strong controls and risk management practices, transparent reporting, and prudent management of the Plan’s investment assets. The independent Chair of TPPTI is mutually appointed by the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) and the Province. The TPPTI Board oversees all aspects of the Plan through Board meetings and meetings of three committees: Audit and Actuarial; Governance, Communications, and Member Services; and Investment. The Chair is an ex officio member of all TPPTI committees and will usually attend committee meetings (approximately nine per year).

Nova Scotia Teachers’ Pension Plan Board is inviting expressions of interest for the role of Chair. As the ideal candidate, you have a background and/or familiarity with the pension industry and experience in chairing or serving on boards. A legal or financial background, familiarity with trusts, and/or knowledge of the responsibilities of trusteeship and fiduciary responsibilities would provide a strong foundation for the Chair role. In addition to the Chair, the TPPTI Board includes four members appointed by the NSTU and four members appointed by the Province. This is a part-time position with an honorarium of $24,000.
