Carleton University, CRC Tier II – Science (Data Science and Analytics)
About the Position:
The Faculty of Science invites applications from qualified candidates for a Tier 2 CRC Chair appointment in Data Science and Analytics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a desired start date of July 1, 2020. The Faculty seeks an emerging scholar specializing in Data Science and Analytics with particular expertise in one or more of the following areas: statistical/machine learning, real-time streaming analytics, natural language processing, computer vision, image and text mining, dynamic network analysis, information visualization/simulation, high-dimensional analytics and manifold learning, or related areas.
Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging researchers (i.e. candidate will typically be less than 10 years from their highest degree at the time of nomination, or more than 10 years and has experienced legitimate career interruptions), acknowledged by their peers as having potential to lead in their field. Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/). The successful candidate will work with the Faculty of Science to prepare the application for the Tier 2 CRC Chair. Academic appointment is conditional on the approval of the application by the CRC Program and will be made to an appropriate Department within the Faculty.

The successful applicant will possess:
• a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a cognate discipline;
• an outstanding record of research and peer-reviewed publications, relative to stage of career;
• a record of high-quality teaching and supervision, appropriate to stage of career;
• commitment to continuing improvement and excellence in teaching;
• capacity to attract external research funding; and
• evidence of, or potential for, collaboration with external partners (e.g. industry, government).

(2) a statement of research interests (5 pages maximum with 2 additional pages of citations) and samples of research (3 maximum), ideally including peer-reviewed publications;
