With over 2,000 students currently enrolled, Ontario Tech’s Faculty of Health Sciences (FHSc) is one of the University’s largest and most rapidly expanding Faculties. The Faculty offers honours baccalaureate degrees in Health Sciences (with specializations in Public Health or Human Health Science), Kinesiology, Allied Health Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Nursing. Graduate programs include a PhD in Health Sciences, a Master of Health Sciences with specializations in Community Health, Public and Population Health, Health Informatics, and Kinesiology. The Faculty also offers programs in cooperation with Durham College, Georgian College, and Trent University, and is engaged in partnerships with more than 60 community and industry organizations that offer learning and research opportunities.
The Faculty’s 70 full-time faculty and staff are committed to integrating innovation into their research and teaching. Ontario Tech’s faculty and staff integrate a myriad of teaching technologies and approaches into their classes to inspire students and nurture a critical approach to understanding health and health care. Faculty members and students engage in learning and research in state-of-the-art health sciences teaching and research laboratories, as well as two dedicated research hubs overseen by the Faculty’s two CRC Chairs. The Faculty’s research is diverse and interdisciplinary and faculty members have successfully secured approximately $1.7 million in grants and funding in the past year, with the total amount of funding secured within the Faculty having doubled over the past four years. In addition, last year the amount of funding faculty researchers received from tri-council sources grew to 50%, a 17% increase from the year before. Ontario Tech places strong emphasis on its relationships and partnerships with community and institutions to provide unique and collaborative educational offerings for its students.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences will provide strategic vision, academic leadership, and administrative oversight for Ontario Tech’s graduate and undergraduate programs. Working closely with faculty, academic administrators, and fellow deans, the Dean will promote quality teaching, research, innovation, teamwork, and synergy across the Faculty and within Ontario Tech. They will provide advice and research support to faculty, and foster a culture of collegiality, interdisciplinarity, and student-centered learning. They will build and maintain strong partnerships within and across Ontario Tech and with other academic institutions, health system organizations, government, community partners, and industry to advance the success of the Faculty and its students.
As the ideal candidate, you are appointable as a full professor within the Faculty of Health Sciences and have a distinctive record of academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning, and research in a discipline aligned with the FHSc at Ontario Tech. You are able to demonstrate successful administrative leadership experience and will be a visionary leader for the Faculty and within Ontario Tech University. You will be innovative, creative, and able to skillfully navigate program and resource allocation discussions in a unionized environment. With a collegial leadership style and superior communication skills, you will have proven ability to instill a cohesive, collaborative workplace culture and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
