Dean, Pilon School of Business
Founded in 1967, Sheridan College is one of Ontario’s leading polytechnic institutions with approximately 23,000 full-time and 18,500 part-time and continuing studies students, and three Greater Toronto Area campuses – located in Oakville, Brampton and Mississauga. Since attaining degree-granting status in 2003, Sheridan has grown its portfolio to 25 degree programs, with plans to further develop in this area.
In this exciting period of growth and evolution, Sheridan is seeking a seasoned and strategic academic leader to lead its Pilon School of Business as Dean. Sheridan’s Pilon School of Business is home to a diverse and innovative cluster of degrees, diplomas, advanced diplomas and post-graduate certificate programs that prepare students for employment in a rapidly changing global economy. The Pilon School of Business builds students’ practical skills, resourcefulness, and potential to innovate with the goal of bringing their business career to life – whether they want to land a great job, make their product go viral or bring a new solution to a persistent market problem.
Reporting to the Provost & Vice President Academic, the Dean of the Pilon School of Business provides strategic and operational leadership, balancing and aligning Sheridan’s vision and strategic objectives with those of the Pilon School of Business. The Dean is responsible for advancing excellence in teaching and learning, research, scholarship and creative activities and for the development, delivery and ongoing quality review of innovative programs and initiatives within the Faculty. Fostering a positive, inclusive and respectful environment, the Dean develops and empowers their team of faculty, support staff and administrators to ensure continuous improvement and evolution of a range of programs and services that meet the needs of students. The Dean identifies, initiates and cultivates strategic relationships with internal peers and external constituencies (e.g. government agencies, professional societies, industry and other educational institutions) to represent the interests and build the profile and reputation of Sheridan, the Pilon School of Business, and its programs.
The ideal candidate will possess a graduate degree, preferably a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, and will be a seasoned administrator and academic leader with experience teaching in a post-secondary environment. With excellent relationship-building skills and gifted at fostering an environment of collaboration, consultation and respect, the new Dean will be able to develop internal talent and inspire, motivate, support and empower others through authentic listening, engagement and humility. Along with in-depth knowledge of the post-secondary environment, the ideal candidate will bring outstanding communication skills, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and strategic vision with the ability to operationalize a strategic plan. The next Dean will have the courage to support innovative thinking within the Faculty and will view tactical problems or initiatives from a broad perspective and emphasize solutions that support strategic objectives.
Sheridan welcomes diversity in the workplace and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including visible minorities, Indigenous People, and persons with disabilities. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Sheridan is committed to accommodating applicants with disabilities throughout the hiring process.
