Head of Prep School
Founded in 1958 with an ambitious commitment to “achieve excellence,” The Halifax Grammar School – a CAIS and independent International Baccalaureate® World School – now welcomes more than 500 children from Junior Primary through Grade Twelve in an environment where passionate teachers challenge eager students to develop knowledge and skill, confidence and independence in four pillars: Academics, Athletics, Arts, and Altruism.
In September 2018, Grammar opened its doors to a new single campus, an extraordinary facility of light, space, and character that has already motivated its faculty, staff, and students to explore exciting new ways to achieve excellence.
In this inspired moment of the School’s rich history, Grammar now seeks a new Head of Prep School.
Encompassing students from Junior Primary through Grade Four, the Prep School offers a compelling space where children are embraced and challenged by a talented faculty to explore, discover, and learn.
Reporting to the Headmaster and serving as a member of the School Management Team, the Prep School Head oversees all aspects of daily Prep School operations and provides accountable and responsive leadership to Prep faculty and students, while shaping a strong sense of Prep School community within the Grammar School community as a whole. As the academic leader of this formative division, the Prep School Head is knowledgeable about innovative curriculum and teaching methodologies based in contemporary science and research and creates a collaborative culture of teachers, who feel inspired and empowered to educate young people. As well, the Prep School Head develops authentic, lasting relationships with community members while providing voice for the School’s vision, values, and mission. In short, the Head of Prep School provides visible, inspirational, and engaged leadership.
The ideal candidate will have a proven record in independent schools, demonstrating experience leading a community of outstanding teachers. The ideal candidate will also have substantive resume of educational experiences and academic credentials relative to innovation in curriculum and teaching methodologies. Finally, the ideal candidate will possess the organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary to lead teachers and students to exciting new expressions of excellence in the Prep School.
