Assistant Vice-President: External Relations

Reporting to the Vice-President, Advancement and External Relations, the Assistant Vice-President: External Relations is the chief story-teller and brand officer of the University and provides a high level of strategic communications and marketing guidance and expertise to support key University initiatives in a multi-campus environment. The portfolio is broad in scope and includes building and strategically positioning the University’s brand, profile and reputation locally, regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally to advance the University’s mission, vision and strategic objectives. The Assistant Vice-President: External Relations is responsible for promoting strong, responsive and mutually beneficial relationships between Laurier and the communities in which it is situated and serves. As an integral member of the leadership team of External Relations, the AVP: External Relations ensures that the University has the people, systems, processes, knowledge and relationships in place to drive projects and initiatives forward across all areas of the university.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred and 10+ years’ experience in a senior role providing leadership in communications, marketing and government relations. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success developing and executing strategies to grow an organization’s profile, reputation and engagement with all of its stakeholders and can foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders and create effective partnerships to advance the University’s mission and vision. The next Assistant Vice-President: External Relations will have a range of skills and expertise in government relations, media relations, communications, advertising and marketing strategies, web communications, crisis communications, issues management, social media, and the publications process. The ideal candidate is sophisticated and creative at problem solving and prioritizing in a busy, fast paced work environment. The Assistant Vice-President: External Relations will possess an appreciation of diverse perspectives and ability to work with diverse groups including members of the media, government at all levels, senior administration, faculty, students, members of student government, and members of the community.
