Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette is pleased to have assisted St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) with the appointment of Dr. June Webber as the new Director of the Coady International Institute and Vice President of StFX.

“Dr. Webber is a welcome addition to our leadership team bringing extensive experience to the position at StFX,” Dr. MacDonald said in making the announcement. “She is a recognized leader in global health policy and development. Her tremendous accomplishments, both nationally and internationally, are well suited to build on Coady’s solid foundation and benefit the entire StFX community.”

Dr. Webber currently works as a health expert (consultant) with several organizations, including the World Bank where she supports the advancement of Universal Health Coverage.

She was the inaugural director of the Department of International Policy and Development at the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), where she helped expand the depth and reach of CNA’s global health program while building a strong policy and programmatic base. She has travelled extensively, working with global counterparts in low- and middle-income countries to advance leadership and capacity for health. Over 15 years with CNA, she provided leadership in multiple global and national settings, leading the organization’s contribution to nursing, health and social policy.

As a health and development professional in Southern Africa from 1988-99, Dr. Webber contributed to community development strategies focused on HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe. She also supported the efforts of professionals and activists in the early post-apartheid years to form the first racially-unified professional association of nurses.

Dr. Webber studied, lectured and undertook sociological research while at the University of Natal (now Kwa-Zulu Natal) in Durban. Her ethnographic study of nurses in early post-Apartheid South Africa earned her the Doctorate of Philosophy in Human Sciences (Sociology). Over the years, she has served in board positions and committees in Canada and internationally. She was appointed adjunct professor, University of Ottawa in 2014.

Dr. Webber’s appointment to StFX follows an extensive national and international search.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Webber.
