Vice President, Human Resources


For over 80 years, the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) has been managing the safe and responsible sale of beverage alcohol in Nova Scotia, returning 100% of its profits to government to help fund key public services. As a true partner in our communities, the NSLC conducts its business with integrity and respect for the environment while supporting the sale of locally produced and bottled products, which represented over $200 million in sales during the 2016-2017 fiscal year. NSLC is Nova Scotia’s largest retailer and their network includes 103 retail stores, 60 agency stores and four private wine and specialty stores. They also serve as a wholesaler to more than 2,000 bars and restaurants across the province.


The Vice President, Human Resources will lead strategy and delivery of human resource services across the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation. Aligned with the human resources strategy, the Vice President, Human Resources will help continue to develop human resources practices that enhance employee engagement and productivity. Together with a team of highly skilled and passionate Human Resource Professionals, the Vice President, Human Resources will align the NSLC’s human resources service delivery model to enable and support efficient and effective people leadership throughout the organization. A key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Human Resources will be a leader of change and will develop solutions, tailor HR programs, and develop policies and practices to support employee engagement, retention, recognition, reward, and workplace health. The Vice President, Human Resources will foster relationships across the organization and with external partners and stakeholders.


As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced strategic human resources leader and bring knowledge of all aspects of human resources including labour relations, employee engagement, workforce planning, compensation management, performance management, workplace health and safety, organizational development and recruitment and selection. You have a demonstrated ability to align human resources strategy, programs and policies with organizational objectives and you are comfortable creating accountability for achieving outcomes. You are a trusted coach, mentor and advisor and able to build strong relationships and partnerships. Experience navigating in complex organizations, you are comfortable leading change and are adept at achieving through and with others. Experience in retail or consumer markets would be considered an asset.
