Vice-Provost (Student Affairs)

It is within this unique and exciting context that the University is seeking an outstanding student affairs leader as the next Vice-Provost (Student Affairs).


Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Vice-Provost (Student Affairs) provides strategic leadership to and is accountable for a range of student services that enhance student engagement and student success both inside and outside the classroom, supporting the University of Guelph in becoming the best comprehensive university in Canada. The Student Affairs portfolio includes the departments of Athletics, Child Care & Learning Centre, Co-operative Education & Career Services, Student Affairs Case Management, Student Housing Services, Student Life, and Student Wellness Services with an engaged team of over 200 full-time, 90 part-time or contract and more than 1,000 student staff. The Vice-Provost (Student Affairs) is an integral member of the academic senior leadership team of the University, aligning the strategic plans, policies and programs of student affairs with the realization of the University’s academic and student experience objectives and goals. This Vice-Provost ensures that the voice of students is heard, that their interests are advanced and represented and that the risks for students and the University are anticipated, mitigated and managed.


As the ideal candidate, you have a passion for, and commitment to, student success. You have a successful track record as a leader in a post-secondary institution and demonstrate strong financial and administrative acumen. You are an energetic change manager who can successfully develop and lead new initiatives, collaborate across administrative and academic units and inspire a team of dedicated student-focused professionals. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to successfully lead community consultations, work productively with diverse stakeholders to implement plans, and foster a feeling of openness and transparency within and across the student affairs portfolio. You are committed to, and are a champion of, diversity and inclusion. You demonstrate cultural competence, an ability to think globally and are able to foster and support an international university experience at the University of Guelph, which has 1,200 international students from more than 100 countries. You are an advocate and spokesperson for student affairs, are conversant with contemporary theory and current best practices in student affairs, student development and student services and will use that knowledge to foster an exceptional student experience at the University of Guelph. An advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred for this role.
