HGS is an environment where passionate teachers challenge students to develop confidence through independence, where coaches and advisors encourage students to pursue excellence through effort, and where a community fosters a lasting commitment to helping others. HGS is seeking a Director of Advancement. With the recent launch of the Engaging Excellence Capital Campaign to support the new One Grammar building construction—Nova Scotia’s largest-ever independent school capital project—it is an exciting time to join the leadership team at this vibrant school.

Working closely with the Admissions Officer, Communications Coordinator, Alumni & Events Coordinator, and Advancement Assistant you will provide leadership in marketing the Grammar brand and building and maintaining relationships with volunteers, donors, parents, alumni, and other key stakeholders in the Grammar community. Preparing and maintaining an advancement budget and developing, managing, and executing fundraising programs across the spectrum will be key elements of this leadership role. You will also lead the school’s marketing and communications strategy and act as a key ambassador in the community. Leading a team of talented professionals and committed volunteers, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders to enhance the school and further Grammar’s mission, values, and vision.
As the ideal candidate, you are collegial, energetic, and aspirational and your excellent leadership skills will allow you to successfully manage and motivate a small team of talented professionals. You have experience with development and advancement services, systems, and best practices. You have a positive attitude and your energy is contagious. You have the innate ability to build excitement and engage others in your goals. You have excellent judgement and can work with discretion on tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. Your superb communication and storytelling skills and passion for your work will enable you to develop new relationships and advance existing relationships on behalf of the school. Experience with and knowledge of marketing and communications in the non-profit sector will allow you to be successful in this role. You believe in the mission and vision of the independent school system, would be excited to play a leadership role in that system, and will lead the advancement portfolio at HGS with vision and a genuine drive to excel.
