Chair of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Reporting to the Dean, Preparatory and Liberal Studies, the Chair, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Chair, School of LAS) is accountable for providing academic and administrative leadership of a large team of faculty and support staff.  The School is comprised of General Education and Liberal Studies courses and two post-secondary programs. As part of the division’s administrative team, the Chair, School of LAS, is responsible for development, delivery and review of programs, ensuring that the programs are aligned to meet student and societal needs as well as the College’s key strategic objectives. The Chair, School of LAS, will develop and implement a strategic plan, identify sources of revenue and funding and provide stewardship of an annual budget for the School. In communication with Chairs and Deans of the other academic divisions, the Chair, School of LAS, will collaborate and partner to ensure programming meets the needs of students.

As the ideal candidate, your progressive experience in proactive academic leadership, innovation, management and strategic planning roles is complemented by a doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in an appropriate discipline. You bring a demonstrated expertise in academic programming, curriculum design and development, relationship building and commitment to student success along with a passion and strong commitment to the values and principles of general education and the liberal arts and sciences. Experience teaching in a post secondary environment preferred. A collaborative decision-maker with strong advocacy and negotiation skills, you can inspire support and create opportunities for faculty to be creative and innovative. Excellent communication, team building, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills are some of the hallmarks to your inclusive leadership style and have allowed you to be successful in an academic environment with a diverse student and staff population. Experience in and/or an understanding of the post-secondary College environment in Ontario and managing in a unionized environment are an asset.
