Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research: Associate Vice President, Research

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Research and working collaboratively with fellow Deans, the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) is the champion for graduate programs and research activities within the University, with business and industry and in the community. The Dean provides strategic and operational oversight for Saint Mary’s diverse PhD and Masters Programs, ensuring and promoting the quality and relevance of graduate programs and research. In the role of Associate Vice President, Research, the Dean acts as an advocate for research, providing leadership in fostering, facilitating and administering the growing research activities of the University, and representing the interests of University researchers with respect to granting agencies, government organizations, and community partnerships. With the support of the Associate Dean – Student Affairs and the FGSR office, this Dean ensures that programs, standards, and policies effectively support the development and delivery of high quality graduate programs and collaborative and interdisciplinary research and creative activities that enable Saint Mary’s to fulfill its strategic priorities.

As the ideal candidate, you are a Full Professor with an exceptional research and teaching record. You bring a broad understanding and respect for diverse approaches to research and creative activity and are capable of and interested in fostering and encouraging others’ scholarship. An accomplished leader and administrator, you bring experience in managing people and budgets as well as experience in sourcing and securing funding for research. A collegial member of your faculty, you demonstrate strong relationship building and collaboration skills and are able to build trusted relationships and credibility within the institution and in the broader regional, national, and international communities. You are innovative, creative, and able to skillfully navigate process, program and resource allocation discussions with transparency, tact and diplomacy. You bring a global perspective and the ability to operationalize a vision that raises the profile of the University and its faculty and students.
